COLLABORATION : KIM YOUNG RANG

For the 24SS season, Lumen presents a collection titled In to the Lumière.

Meaning 'into the light,' it carries Lumen's founding philosophy —
to be a quiet, steady light for those living through each ordinary day.
For this lookbook, we worked with fabric artist Kim Young Rang on a handcrafted screen.

About the Artist
Kim Young Rang is a fabric artist who designs and makes textile pieces.
She first came to traditional jogakbo patchwork while learning hand sewing as a pastime.
Though sewing was her trade, making jogakbo remained slow, patient work —
yet the wish to create them stayed with her, and four to five years ago she began making jogakbo screens.
Hand-stitching ramie or hemp is the traditional way, but she turned to linen and the sewing machine,
resolving her designs in a simpler, more modern manner.

Feeling that traditional jogakbo too often served as mere ornament,
she made hers in the hope they would find practical use in daily life.
The result is work that sits naturally in modern homes and commercial spaces alike.

While jogakbo were originally sewn from leftover scraps, she also uses whole cloth as the work requires.
She works mainly in linen — a familiar natural fabric that is easy to care for.
As linen varies in weave and weight, her product notes simply read 'assorted linens.'



With LUMEN
'Please make a screen that you feel suits Lumen.'
To this request, Kim Young Rang kept the patchwork restrained,
mindful of Lumen's quiet, unadorned designs.
Rather than dividing the cloth into many small pieces, she varied the kinds and weights of linen.

The combination of soft beige linens lends the screen a warm, gentle presence —
recalling spring sunlight diffusing softly into a room through the cloth.
